Facelift for a period façade
Refurbishment of the Linen Master's House in Bielefeld
The Linen Master's House is located in the heart of the autonomous city of Bielefeld, very near the central bus station and right opposite the busy railway station. This façade is therefore the first thing that visitors arriving here by train or bus will see, and first impressions count. The pedestrian precinct with numerous shops starts just 150 m away.
Heritage conservation
The Linen Master's House was built in the modernist style in the mid-1950s and became a listed building at the start of 1997. Therefore when the façade needed urgent refurbishment, conservation requirements had to be complied with.
Airtec Stone
The structural condition of the building had to be taken into account and the façade system also had to be sympathetically restored in keeping with the property's listed status. For structural reasons a façade consisting of solid stone slabs could not be installed without altering the existing building. Since Airtec Stone offers a range of design options and is also considerably lighter than a solid-slab façade, the planners decided to explore this system further. Lithodecor Airtec Stone is up to 66 per cent lighter than conventional solid solutions and also extremely robust. The design is in keeping with the original appearance, thereby meeting conservation requirements.
